humble beginnings

Coming from Taiping, Malaysia with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Chee Weng Moh, also known as Michael Moh, came to America to pursue his Masters degree in industrial engineering, but half way through as he worked as a server while in school, he began to fall in love with cooking. As he continued practice cooking, he began to be interested in Japanese food and fervorously studied numerous methodologies & techniques to improve his cooking ability. With his passion to share his cooking, he took a chance to create his first Japanese restaurant with his wife by saving over $80,000 to open their first restaurant Nagoya in Arlington, Texas with another business partner, which they eventually sold.

With experience under their belt, they wanted to open their own restaurant which they can call their own, Japanese Grill. This was a restaurant that had casual dining tables & a small sushi bar. This led to both of them wanting to open a slightly more upscale restaurant where they can focus on a different experience as a whole, rather than a basic mom-and-pop shop. They were able to successfully run the business well & sell it. As they were looking to innovate & develop their Japanese cuisine experience, this led to the couple to opening Oishii Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse. After 13 successful years of serving high quality Japanese Cuisine at Oishii, they wanted to share their love for Japanese Cuisine & culture with a more casual audience.

This led to them creating iCafe Arlington! iCafe Arlington is a small cafe that serves tea with boba, coffee, ramen, sushi, bento boxes, and more! We’re a small family owned restaurant that is located in the heart of Arlington, Texas, near Downtown Arlington & the University of Texas (UTA) in Arlington. Especially with the current situation with Covid-19, we would appreciate your business by ordering safely through Uber Eats or Chow Now (delivered by Door Dash).
